Consumer dispute resolution
We are neither willing nor obliged to participate in dispute-resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board unless a legal obligation to participate applies in an individual case.
Applicable mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
Hosting and local technology
Maqam Academy is hosted by IONOS SE in Germany.
Fonts, logos, images and videos used by the website are stored and served locally. Maqam Academy does not embed YouTube or Vimeo players and does not use social-media plugins.
The current notation implementation uses VexFlow 3.0.9. In the present technical version, VexFlow is loaded from the cdnjs content-delivery network when notation functionality is used. This point must be updated in this Legal Notice and the Privacy Policy if VexFlow is moved to local hosting.
Privacy and first-party analytics
Maqam Academy may operate optional first-party website analytics for internal service analysis and improvement. Website analytics is activated only after the visitor makes an affirmative analytics choice through the privacy banner. Visitors can later change that choice through Privacy settings. Details about the data processed, retention and consent controls are provided in the Privacy Policy.
Copyright, database rights and intellectual property
Unless stated otherwise, the original content of Maqam Academy is protected to the extent provided by applicable copyright, database and other intellectual-property laws. This includes, in particular, original texts, theoretical descriptions, research material, graphics, notation layouts, interface designs, database selection and organization, original data compilations, classifications, maqam relationships, derivations, modulation data, audio recordings, audio samples, illustrations and software components.
The Maqam Academy databases and their original selection, arrangement, structure, classifications and compilations may be protected as database works and/or by database-producer rights under German copyright law. All such rights are reserved.
Except where a statutory right or exception applies, no licence is granted to reproduce, copy, scrape, crawl, extract, download, mirror, republish, redistribute, transmit, translate, adapt, merge, repackage, make publicly available, commercially exploit or incorporate protected Maqam Academy database content into another database, website, application, publication, dataset, software product, AI system or other service without the prior express written permission of Rami Al-Rajab.
This prohibition also applies, to the extent protected by law, to the repeated and systematic extraction or reuse of individually insubstantial parts of the database where that conduct conflicts with the normal exploitation of the database or unreasonably prejudices the legitimate interests of the database maker. Access to Maqam Academy, including a Free, Plus or Edu subscription, grants only the right to use the service within the applicable plan. It does not transfer ownership or grant a right to reproduce or republish the database.
Building Rules of Maqam (BRoM)
Building Rules of Maqam (BRoM) © Rami Al-Rajab is an original theoretical framework conceived and developed by Rami Al-Rajab for structural analysis within the Maqam Academy model. The original BRoM texts, explanations, diagrams, terminology arrangements, classifications, examples, database structures and software implementations are protected to the extent provided by applicable law.
Any permission granted by Maqam Academy to reproduce, publish, adapt or otherwise reuse protected BRoM material is conditional on clear attribution to the author and source. The required attribution is:

Rules of Related Maqamat (RoRM)

Keys X-Ray
Keys X-Ray is a named Maqam Academy keyboard-visualization feature. Keys X-Ray is a Maqam Academy visualization concept independently developed by Rami Al-Rajab, originating from an idea conceived in 2003.

Copyright notices concerning Keys X-Ray refer to protectable original expression and implementation, including original graphics, text, interface design and software to the extent protected by applicable law. They do not claim copyright ownership over an abstract idea, method, individual fact or musical principle. Maqam Academy does not present Keys X-Ray as a registered trademark or patented invention.
Research, citation and academic reference
Researchers, authors, teachers and students may refer to Maqam Academy and discuss its theories, findings and publicly available information in research, articles, books, theses, lectures and other academic or educational work in accordance with applicable law. Lawful quotation remains permitted within the limits of the applicable statutory quotation right. Where Maqam Academy, BRoM or RoRM is used as a source, the source should be identified clearly as Rami Al-Rajab / Maqam Academy, www.maqamacademy.com. When referring specifically to Keys X-Ray, the preferred provenance wording is: “Keys X-Ray — a Maqam Academy visualization concept independently developed by Rami Al-Rajab.”
Citation or attribution does not by itself grant permission to reproduce, extract or republish protected database content, substantial parts of the database, protected diagrams, extensive text, software, audio or other protected material. Where permission is legally required, prior express written permission from Rami Al-Rajab must be obtained.
Nothing in this notice claims exclusive copyright over abstract ideas, methods, individual facts or musical principles where such protection is not provided by law. Statutory rights and exceptions remain unaffected.
Screenshots, screen recordings and public presentation
The fact that content can be displayed in a browser or captured technically does not constitute permission to republish it. Except where a statutory right or exception applies or prior express written permission has been granted, protected Maqam Academy content may not be published, redistributed, uploaded, transmitted, commercially exploited or incorporated into another website, application, publication, course, presentation, video, social-media account, dataset, AI system or commercial product by means of screenshots, screen recordings, photographs or other captures.
This includes, where protected, notation and staff displays, diagrams, BRoM and RoRM materials, Keys X-Ray visualizations, Practice material, original explanations, database displays and other original visual or textual content. A capture made for a legally permitted private purpose does not by itself authorize later publication or redistribution.
Public recitation, projection, display, recording or other public presentation of substantial protected Maqam Academy text or visual material requires authorization where applicable law reserves that use, unless a statutory exception applies. Discussion of ideas, facts and musical principles remains subject to the normal limits of copyright law; copyright protection does not extend to abstract ideas as such.
Where Maqam Academy grants permission to reproduce or present protected material, any stated attribution conditions must be followed. Unless otherwise agreed, the preferred general attribution is:

Where a lawful quotation or another statutory use requires source identification, the source and authorship must be identified as required by law. Attribution does not authorize copying that would otherwise require permission.
Copyright notices, watermarks, author information and other rights-management information must not be removed, concealed or deliberately obscured in connection with unauthorized publication or redistribution of protected material.
Enforcement
Unauthorized infringement of copyright, database or related rights may give rise to remedies available under applicable law. Maqam Academy and the relevant rights holder reserve the right, where appropriate, to request removal, secure evidence, pursue cease-and-desist measures, seek injunctive relief, information or damages, and commence legal proceedings before the competent courts. Statutory rights and exceptions remain unaffected.
Third-party trademarks, software, fonts, libraries and other materials remain the property of their respective owners and are used under their applicable licences or legal permissions.
